What is a grafted tree?
A tree that has been spliced together. The Kindred Spirit® Hybrid Oak is roots from a Swamp White Oak with a Kindred Spirit® Scion or “top piece” grafted to it.

Do I have to plant my new tree right away?
It is important to keep the roots moist. Your Kindred Spirit® Hybrid Oak can be placed in a pot or go directly into the soil. Keeping the roots moist is mandatory for the survival of your tree.

Should I fertilize?
Fertilization is recommended 1 to 2 times a year but due to localized soil types, pH, moisture and other variables it is best to consult a local nursery or arborist for more details.

Why is there tape on the lower part of the tree?
That is where the tree was grafted. Think of it like a tree bandage. In time, it should fall off on its own.

Is there a warranty?
We are not offering a blanket warranty because it is difficult to ensure that the tree has been taken care of properly. We are willing to exam it on a case by case basis if proper care was given to the tree. Please reach out if the tree dies and we will examine the situation.

How deep should I plant?
Plant so the root flare is at soil grade and water well during installation. Mixing the native soil with potting soil will be beneficial.

Does the tree have to be staked?
Staking is not mandatory but it will significantly reduce the likelihood of the tree stem breaking.

How much water?
Due to the nature of the Swamp White Oak Root Stock, they can be tolerant of moist and dry soils conditions. The first season after installation, it is recommended that supplemental water is added to the root zone during dry periods.

How soon will my tree(s) arrive?
In most cases, you should receive your tree(s) within 7-10 days.
